All-Star Week
Monday morning. Quiet house, coffee going cold because I forgot about it again. That is usually a good sign. It means my head was somewhere useful.
The house is quiet but the city is not. All-Star week is here. The Home Run Derby hits Citizens Bank Park tonight, the All-Star Game tomorrow, and Philly is absolutely wild for it. Last time the Midsummer Classic was in this city was 1996. That was at the Vet, and I was a kid, no idea what I was going to build or who I was going to become. The old building is gone now. The game is back anyway, in a new place, in a whole different life. I did not plan to get sentimental about baseball tonight, but there it is. Some things loop back around and you get to stand in the same spot as a completely different version of yourself.
My own week is loud too, in a good way, and it already started right. First meeting is in the books and it went well, the kind of start that tells you the rest of the week is going to move. Full slate from here. Events, meetings, pieces all moving at once. On paper it looks like a lot. In my head it looks like a road, not a wall, and that is the part I am proud of. There was a stretch where a week like this one would have sat heavy on me by Sunday night. Now I look at it and I do not flinch. I built the thing on purpose, every piece has a reason it exists, and when the plan is honest you stop dreading it. You just start walking.
The plan for the week is simple. Show up. Do the reps. Move the few things that actually need moving and let the rest wait their turn. Protect the routines that keep me level. Sleep enough. Answer the important things fast and let the noise sit. The big week does not scare me because I am not trying to feel unstoppable. I just need to feel set. Set gets you to Friday, and Friday is where you find out you were stronger than the Sunday version of you believed.
Here is the honest part, since this space has always been for that. What I want next is a real partner, the woman version of me. Someone building her own thing, driven the same way, not looking to be carried and not looking to carry me. I have deep respect for the women in my life, full stop. I have also been through relationships that took more than they gave, and that taught me to back myself first, always. That does not mean the door is closed. It means I am selective. The right one gets all of me.
So the city is loud, my week is loud, and I am calm in the middle of all of it. Baseball comes home for the first time since I was a kid. The plan is set. The list is set. I am set.
The week can come.
More soon.
