Lesson Seven: Parry the Noise
This is the hardest post I’ve ever written, and the one I never wanted to.
For a year, I stayed quiet while working through patterns I hoped would change, guilt, control, and subtle manipulation that tried to convince me I was wrong for building something on my own terms. I used to think support was supposed to be automatic. It wasn’t.
What I found instead was something better, and much happier, earned support. The people in my world, my network, partners, friends, and some family, are the kind of people who show up because they respect the work and me, not because they expect something from it. Some family understood and supported me through it. Others still have a hard time with it. And that’s fine. I still love them.
My door is open to everyone, but those already through it are aligned, grounded, and real. They show respect because they understand it goes both ways. I will always go out of my way to respect others, but from here on, respect is mutual, not assumed.
I’ve been laughed at for believing in structure, for trusting systems over luck, and for using mindset and focus as a foundation. Every time, the results have proved the critics wrong.
This week, during my seventh boxing lesson at 3rd Ape Fitness, I learned how to parry - the skill of redirecting a hit without losing balance. It hit me right then: that’s life. You don’t have to absorb every punch. You can guide it away, protect your focus, and stay centered.
The past year taught me to:
- Parry manipulation. Let the noise pass; truth doesn’t need defending.
- Parry mockery. People only mock what they’re afraid to attempt themselves.
- Parry doubt. Progress doesn’t wait for permission - it moves with momentum and initiative.
Now, Onward Upward Digital is scaling. Partners are buying in.
And when things get loud, I go where I’m respected. At Bar Avalon, they all listen, and they’ve got a damn good bacon smash burger too (had one today - see below). It’s a place with people who get it, who understand what proof looks like, and who appreciate progress when they see it, and I love hearing their stories about life too.

I never wanted to write this. But it’s time. Because things are what they are, not what they aren’t. Parry the noise.
The storm revealed the structure.
The structure held.
It's called Onward.
It’s also Upward.
Connectivity is a human right and a very healing one.
